Electric Bicycles

F.A.Q.

What is the maximal operational range of the E-bike?

One of the most frequently asked questions is regarding the operational range of E-bikes. First and foremost, we need to remember that the electric bicycle, according to current standards, is still a bike and the engine just helps. Many factors such as battery capacity, the course of the terrain, rider’s weight and last but not least, the mode of assistance must be taken into account. The stated operational ranges are for guidance only and the actual operation range may vary.Ηe who steps on the pedals a little, reaches farther than the one, who just gets a “lift”. We supply electric bicycles which use the PAS - Pedal Sensor Assistant (Pedelec), which starts the engine assistance after stepping on the pedals and the kick and on the contrary, when braked, the engine disconnects and shuts down. Furthermore, the power of the assistance can be set in various levels. The correct choice of assistance can then save the battery power and extend the range. Ranges of E-bikes listed on these pages correspond to real ranges of an average rider.

I am considering renting an E-bike for the whole day, will the battery stand?

The E-bikes rented by our Shop have a real operational range between 40 and 80 km, depending on the driving style, used assistance mode and of course, the terrain. If you have rented the E-bike in order to visit the sights and interesting places in Pafos and its surrounding areas, you will most likely have enough battery capacity for the entire day. Visiting places like the mythical Aphrodite Beach, picturesque Agiou Georgiou, breathtaking Pafos Zoo or the Coral Bay beach, taking pride in the Blue Flag, do not represent any problem with the range of our E-bikes including the return trip. Do not forget that even during your visit to monuments, restaurants and even beaches you can extend the range by charging-up through the provided charger. During one hour of charging, you can add up to 10 - 15 km on the range (depending on the battery status). No restaurant owner will refuse a request to charge the battery during your lunch. The costs of the charging are entirely negligible.

Isn’t renting a car cheaper for me?

If you are a larger family and prefer the comfort of the car, so probably yes. But riding an E-bike is primarily a unique, healthy entertainment associated with transport over a wide area. If, however, you take into account only the costs, you must not forget to add the often undisclosed price of the insurance, often even the VAT and last but not least, the price of the fuel itself to the advertised prices for a car hire.

I have arrived late at night from a trip, do I have to wait until the battery is charged to disconnected it?

Connect the battery to the provided charger and go to bed in peace or enjoy other entertainment. The built-in circuit monitors the optimal battery charge and disconnects the battery from the charger when fully charged. But if you do not plan to use the E-bike in the coming days, we do not recommend leaving the battery connected to a charger for a long time for no reason.

Will an electric bicycle pay off?

According to recent surveys, the majority of private vehicles is used mostly for commuting to work and back. In addition, with an average distance of about 25 kilometres per day and used mostly by one person only. We will use this information to compare the operating costs of an electric bicycle and a passenger car. Our E-bike models have an operating range between 40 and 120 kilometres per charging. It depends on the battery capacity of the purchased electric bike, the way of using the pedal assistance (PAS), the terrain profile and the weight of the rider. The best selling battery type of our electric bikes is a modern Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 12Ah and voltage of 36V. Under normal conditions, the range of electric bicycles equipped with this type of battery is ranging from 45 to 80 km. This is based on our own experience "Our Trips" and the experience of our customers. In practice, this means that during normal daily use, one charge is sufficient for most people for one day running. For our comparison of an electric bike versus a car we will give the bike a handicap. We will assume that the car has an average consumption of 6 litres per 100 kilometres with costs of € 1.3 per litre of fuel, with a distance of 25 km per day. But for an E-bike we will calculate a full charge of around 400Wh at a price of € 0.22 per kWh, including all taxes, as if the bike would be fully discharged every day, although this would correspond to a much higher range than the range of the car. For the car with 25 kilometres per day it will be € 1.95 per day, € 58.50 per month and € 702 per year. The price of such E-bike charging will be approximately € 0.09, which is € 2.70 per month and € 32.40 per year. Thus, the annual costs for running an E-bike are approximately € 32 compared to € 702 for running a car. Yet for the electric bicycle we have calculated the cost of charging only and we did not take into account the real operating range, which is at least double.

Electric Bicycle:
1 full charge (operating range 45-80km): € 0.09 including all taxes
1 month: € 2.70
1 year: € 32.40

Passenger car:
25 km/day: € 1.95
1 month: € 58.50
1 year: € 702

Now we only have to add that for running a car in comparison to an electric bike you need additionally: driving license, MOT, Road Tax, insurance, oil changes and other operational costs. And what secondary costs you will have for an electric bike?

Are your Li-ion batteries safe?

A Li-ion battery is composed of 10 series-connected cells (10 x 3.6 V). For a maximum safety, individual cells are encased in stainless steel housings, fitted with a safety relief valve. A part of each battery is a BMS circuit that ensures optimum charging of individual cells while also guarding the minimum voltage per cell, and thus ensures maximum battery life. Each battery is equipped with a switch box with a lock, that protects the battery against theft from the bicycle. It is also equipped with a diode LED indicator that shows the approximate current battery charge status. The batteries are equipped with a safety fuse.

What about the service?

We provide a guarantee of 24 months for the sold E-bikes, and we provide full warranty and even customer service. In addition, within the framework of our services for customers we provide a free warranty inspection.

How to care for the battery?

For a maximum battery life time, it is necessary to keep the battery charged. The battery has no memory effect, so it can be charged and discharged as needed. During the time when not using the battery, the battery needs to be fully charged at an ambient temperature above 10 degrees Celsius at least one time per 6-8 weeks. It is important to use only a charger that is designed by the manufacturer for the provided battery type.
